Pomp & Circumstance, an arts/culture magazine I edit and to which I sometimes contribute, posted some of my thoughts on award shows on their blog, pomponline.com. In keeping with the spirit of these thoughts, I did not watch the Oscars. Advantage: me.

Wordseekers and scorekeepers: Please find an old poem of mine, “Famous Experts,” published this month (January 2009) in the latest print and digital editions of Chronogram.

I first found a copy of Chronogram in Bushwick; I don’t recall where. I do remember that the front cover showed some feature of the human anatomy as seen under X-ray light.

The X-ray, meanwhile, reminds me of the N-ray, whose brief history as an important (or even extant) particle is documented in Paul Collins’ very funny Banvard’s Folly, a book of essays about almost-geniuses. Everyone should read it soon, if not today.

Brief Epigrams, meanwhile (x2), provides a gallery of Collins’ not-quite-worldshakers, including the fearless young Englishman who “found” the lost plays of Shakespeare.

I wonder if the modern equivalent would be “finding” the lost bewildering epigrams of George Carlin, or “finding” a book of Biggie’s unrecorded rap songs about [insert controversial, timely subject].
