“Assorted Other Endeavors.” Such as:
Heavy Jamal
My gnostic hip hop group with The Mangoose, a Brooklyn DJ who is also a motorcycling sea captain and fascinating conversant: myspace.com/heavyjamal. We played several shows in dingy bars in 2008; with your help, we can do the same in 2009.
Here’s a video for “Altar of the Dead,” a story-rap set in the future. The quotation at the end is from a scary Philip K. Dick book. Video by Geoff Otis.
Also check out the video for “Stranger in the Strangest Land,” a song by myself and Sam Tyndall of The Kiss-Off. I think the song is about memory loss, romance, and transcendental/Surreal moments of connection with “ordinary” things. (”I eat teeth.”) Not sure why everyone in the video is so dern pensive-looking. Video by/for Two Blue Wolves.
Ellis Island
I’m designing a website for poet and National Book Award-winner Robert Viscusi’s upcoming collection of sonnets about Italy/America/migration/life. Using Viscusi’s lines you can generate your own random sonnet here: ellisislandpoem.com. Random generator designed by Scott Dexter.
